World Bicycle Day 2020
Today, as I am writing this article, I am happy to see a cycling revolution due to coronavirus. This is the one good effect after the lockdown, that people felt the need to exercise, and they are out riding. Some days ago, when it was allowed to ride outside after complete lockdown, I observed many people who would rather drive, riding their bicycles. The world has changed a lot!
As you may know, 3rd June is celebrated as World Bicycle Day, across the world. This time, it will be a lot different, as group rides will not occur on a large scale due to social distancing rules, and riding too fast will exhaust the rider much more, due to wearing masks and having lack of oxygen. So, many virtual group rides are there on the internet, which are mostly free of cost, and require you to ride while maintaining social distancing, not with a group.
It will be a lot different. Many people are mountain bikers, and their trails are closed. Some people will be scared of going outside and riding due to the risk of infection, and especially on a day like that, they will be more afraid due to more riders on the road.
If you are a person who likes to ride, but in your area, the lockdown restrictions are such that you cannot ride, then I know how you are feeling. In India, lockdown restrictions were eased on 17th May. Before that, all I could do was ride indoors, which I hated. I know it feels bad, so I can completely understand how you feel. It is like being trapped in four walls, and all you can do is exercise indoors. So, just pray, like everyone else, that this virus goes away, and you can ride freely again. To be honest, I didn't know that I would be able to ride again in just a few months, because looking at the newspaper every morning, the state of India was just getting worse. I thought that on 3rd June, I might be riding indoors and just be breaking my indoor cycling records. But I had hope. And so, I am able to ride again.
If you are unhappy with your government for not easing the lockdown and letting you ride, there is a reason for this. The government wants that least people get injured by things that can be avoided. In simpler words, they don't want unnecessary load on hospitals, for say, a cycling injury, which can be prevented by not riding. In their perspective, the main goal is to get rid of the virus. That's it and it is being done for the nation's good.
So, I end my article here and and wish you all happy and safe riding. Stay tuned!
