About Me

I am the guy who writes all these articles to be of some help to cyclists, whether they are newbies, or just do not understand something about the sport. I am a cycling enthusiast. Till now, I've ridden about 5000 kms and I find my peace in just pedaling. I am from India. India is famous for many mountain passes, tourist attractions and various cultures. But there are many cyclists here as well, if not few. So, in the starting of my teens, I chose to be a cyclist.

I was inspired by many cyclists of my city and where they could go by just using their leg power. My first long distance ride at that time was 15 kms (30 kms round trip) away from home, to a lake situated near the foothills of the Himalayas. Later, I started to go longer distances, and therefore completed a half century (50 kms) in one ride. Just one and a half year after my half century completion, I completed a full century. It was a time trial organised by a bike shop. However, I was not that fast, efficient or experienced at that time. Being the youngest and least experienced racer, I finished last, just before their support time finished. After that, I thought to be a recreational cyclist, and just ride for fun and challenge myself instead of comparing with others.

I am now a professional home bicycle mechanic. I now have the know-how to do any repairs at home, and depend upon the bike shops only when I'm too tired to do anything. I've had many component failures. Once while riding, I twisted a derailleur. After replacing it with the cheapest, non-branded derailleur, it again let me down, that too on a group ride. That derailleur was as cheap as an inner tube, so it was bound to break. After these experiences, I bought a better derailleur, but it too broke, after coming back from a leisure ride. This gave me experience of how to repair a derailleur in an emergency. But after this incident, I switched to a single speed permanently. It's very flat where I live, so there is no main need for gears. I have sacrificed a bit of acceleration, speed and leg comfort , but these are the least of my worries. "Simplicity is Key", or atleast it is for me...

My dream is to prove that cycling is the key to leading a happy and eco-friendly life, and that anyone can do it. I also want to prove that you can go anywhere on your leg power and two wheels. Many people think it's impossible to go anywhere on a bicycle, but it's just a specific mindset those people have. Today, there are so many people who do bikepacking and bike touring. You may have seen many people do it on the internet. They enjoy what they do. I too hope I do long distance tours in the future.

So, that's all about me, who I am, what I do, and what I dream. Thank you for reading.
